backround/work expierence
 

Okay, just so I don't get burned at an interview (or after), I have been working at a job for a while now its kind of an under the tabe type deal... When they go and look at the previous work expierence and don't see that (w2's..) there is that a problem? Cause its a legit business they can call and talk to. Other than that I'm clean! Anyone been in this kind of similar situation?

If I couldnt prove it with W-2's or check stubs or something similar to your situation I might think twice about putting it on a resume... but then you have to generally explain your "dead" time...... dunno.. maybe somebody else has some better advice with reasons... but I would be real careful with this one.

I agree man, that's sticky..were you doing it while you were in school?..If you leave it off, and just tell them you were focusing on school, I can't seeing under the table looking all that great to an airline. But, they may also have the mindset of, "a lot of people have had under the table jobs"...regardless you have to have a previous 10 year history to explain..

You could claim Independent Contractor and file that way. Then your employers could be used as references to verify your work.

I agree, if you can't show a W2 or show that you claimed it as a IC on your tax return was it really a job?

To be honest, its the family business! So, i get pay checks but yeah I feel bad admitting the last two years I kind of haven't been honest with the IRS, that being said If i just claim the next couple months? My pops says who cares I'm your boss and they have any questions they can call me.. But still I know its an airline and don't want to feel like I have to make something up. On another not besides a couple of speeding/ seat belt tickets (two each) the only other thing I've ever done was civil infraction for underage drinking 6 years ago. I saw someone say on another thread some guy got a job with AWAC then found out about the under age drinking that happened 10 years ago, maybe he wasn't honest?

NOW that is probably more of a sticky situation than the job thing... the underage drinking conviction may bite you in the butt.

I've actually heard..believe it or not (im' not sure if it's true or not either)..that there is no written law where it says you have to file a tax return.

I've heard stories of people asking the IRS to prove that you have to, and they balk, and can't find it. hmm

kind of off the beaten path..maybe any lawyer types around know of this?

Yeah, I'm not proud of it. But I was 16 being stupid and have learned my lesson, especially after jumping into this profession, I'm 22 now and doubt I'll even try interviewing until I'm 23 next June. Had Skywest and Pinnacle in mind (close to home town). But if your just honest about it I don't see why its fault to deny you. This thing was supposedly wiped off for taking a class, but sure they'll still find it.

P.S. Do they just see it or do they have to hole police report to read??..

Rent "Maxed out" on netflix the first half is about predatory consumer credit, the second half shows several people serving time because they also felt there was no law requiring a federal tax return. The argument is well documented and there appears to be no law that can be produced - but they're still in jail.

It's worth renting for the consumer credit bit alone.
