Lori, a few months ago i interviewed at a regional airline. I felt that the interview went well. I could not recall any major mistakes in the technical or sim evaluation. I did, however feel that i did not make a solid connection to my interviewers. A few days after the interview i received an e-mail stating something to the effect of after careful consideration, we have decided not to continue with the hiring process. We would like to call you back in 6 months for another interview.

So my questions are: Are they really going to call? And what does a letter like this tell you? Was i liked, but they felt i needed more experience etc? Or is this just a polite no? Thank you in advance for your time and expertise.

That is kind of a weird one. A lot of airlines will say "please apply again in 6 months." I have never heard of this before personally, but then again anything can be said/done in this industry. I assume that they are saying that they are going to keep your application/resume for six months and during that time they may call you again for another interview. They could also be saying like a said above that they want you to apply again in 6 months. There are many airlines that will give you an oppurtunity again to interview. From what your saying, it sounds like they do have interest in you, but there are people presently more qualified. I would not take this as them saying you are not good enough. Good Luck!!!

Sounds like SKW. They actually do this a lot, and if they say come back they mean it. It used to be common to get hired there on the second (or even third) interview.

If it's someone else, who knows. You can always try again if you haven't found something else.

But I wouldn't put your life on hold either way, unless this is your dream job.

Thanks for the info. And yes it was Sky. I thought that was an interesting way to put things.... we will call you. Either way im not holding my breath, but i am also keeping my profile on their website updated. Who knows? I figured with the way things are shaping up lately it never hurts to keep all your options open.

It does sound like they are very interested in you. For whatever their reason they aren't ready to move forward. Your approach is good, keep your information updated in their system. They just might surprise you and call! But be sure to update especially at the six month mark. They probably have a standard waiting period policy before re-interviewing, hence the six month remark. This doesn't mean they won't break that policy though! They just reserve the right. The good news is they left the door open - if they weren't interested they would have simply stated "thanks but no thanks."

If you aced the technical and the sim then my instincts tell me they didn't get to know you in the HR portion. They need to really feel like they've gotten to know the real you and how you think. Not just from the technical aspect.

oh, by the way.... airlines LOVE tenacity. It means you really want to work for them. What company doesn't want that?
