Default FlightSafety Academy Interview

The Academy's interview is certainly "thorough". I wouldn't worry about it if you know your Reg's, and all the PTS Standards thru Commercial, Multi and Instrument (even CFI if you're an experienced CFI, they'll expect you to anyways since you ARE a CFI). They have a corporate culture there and it's best if you go in with an open mind and are willing to adapt to it, especially if you're coming from a Part 61 training environment. It is a great place to teach, and the benefits are excellent. Just go PREPARED. I taught there for about 8 months...loved it. I don't know how accurate the 100 question written deal is. I was an in house CFI, so I didn't have to take it. I've heard it was 50, but I can't be sure. As far as the sim and flight goes, you heard right as far as I can remember. Be prepared, be proficient and TEACH as much as you FLY. Best of luck to you!

Could you expand more on your experiences as a cfi down there. It is a place Im looking at interviewing and would like to know about COL, housing, the usual stuff. Do you end up working super hard some months to pay the bills for others where the flying is lean? starting pay? thanks

I had my interview there on tuesday. The written was 100 q's. FOI AIM Wx and IFR(25 q's each subject). The questions were directly from the FAA written, nothing with figures, and no calculations....very straight forward. I didn't know there was an IFR portion and still got a 90. After that I met(very briefly) with Diane, I believe she is asst chief. Then IFR flight in seminole FRASCA with the same person. T/O from Vero, vectors to full ILS with NDB intercepting and tracking at St. Lucie(I used the localizer to substitute for the NDB and was told it was fine) land at St. Lucie. T/O direct to vero VOR, as soon as i identified, and intercepted the VOR I was fast-forwarded a bit and given holding instructions. Made direct entry and flew two laps in the hold then shot the approach. Diane was very laid back and even gave me a few pointers during the flight. All they were looking for was basic IFR skills and scanning. Actually flying the sim was secondary. I am not a CFII and although I am legally IFR current, am not very proficient. I didn't do all that well on the sim portion and was still offered the job.

As far as the other stuff goes, I know they have on-campus housing which is cheap. Theres info about cost I think on the website. Cost to rent around the area seems like anywhere from 350ish a month up to 600ish assuming you are living with someone else. If not then a little more expensive. Starting pay is 16 for both flight and ground. Not sure how busy you are. I couldn't ask all the questions I wanted because I was kind of scrambling to make my flight home.

p.s. I'm moving down later next week and have nowhere to live! Anyone has a place and needs a roomy send me a PM!

Default flightSafety Vero Beach Florida current info

Does anyone have any info on flightsafety academy in Vero Beach? All of the information is several years old. I am looking for current information on hiring. Outlook for training in different programs ie swiss program, and other foreign cadet ab initio training programs. I have been out of flight training for approximately 7 years. I am looking to instruct for a year or two within a professional flight training organization.I have been on APC for years to keep up with the industry just not a lot of posts.

Just interviewed at FSA. If your an instructor and want to make a career in aviation you need to be here. The staff is to notch the equipment is very well maintained and they have tons of resources to better yourself as an instructor. The interview process is similar to the airlines. You start with a 125 question written covering FOI, WX, Regs, IFR Ops. Next we did a 1 on 1 covering HR along with a couple of technical questions. After that was a "group discussion" where your group is given some scenarios and you discuss the options. Finally your assigned a commercial maneuver and are given 15 min to present. If all goes well your invited to begin stands. Stands is similar to airline training where you drink from a hydrant for a couple of days then you start flying. If you haven't flown in a while I suggest you get some air time as they expect you to fly to PTS. All in all this is an awesome place to work and there in dire need of instructors so put your app in and knock that rust off.

$16 an hour, and they charge what...$50 or so for your services. So a student is paying $50 per hour for an instructor that values his time at $16 per hour? No thanks.

I value the opportunities that are presented with a well connected organization. Would you like to pay for the 1200 plus hours I need for an ATP? Probably not. I didn't get into aviation to make millions of dollars. Im in it because I love to fly, and for a 25 year old with no attachments this is a pretty sweet gig. Thanks for your input though.
