Tattoos

Hey guys, well I just wanted to ask you guys who been in it for a long time in the career, I'm finishing right now CFI and hopefully soon would like to work my self up to a regional and then major of course, but my question is this, I've been in the military now for a long time and for like 8 years now I wanted to get a tattoo, (military tat) but one of the reasons I haven't is cause of my future. Do the airlines really care about this? cuz honestly if they don't I'm getting it done like next week, other wise I will hold on. I know that the military does care about this, so that's why I'm asking.

Thanks

I have flown with two guys, one owns a tattoo shop and the other was in a hard rock band, both have full sleeves, both are great guys and even better pilots. The down fall for them is that they have to wear long sleeve shirts even in the summer. If you get one have it in a spot that can be covered with a tee shirt and you should be fine.

I've got one on the deltoid area nobody knows it's there unless I want them to...keep it above the elbow and you should be fine.

Yes, they do care. Just about any white-collar profession cares. Think long and hard about getting a visible tat.

Visibility=Judge-ablility......

Mine are above the sleeve, not for the rest of the world, not for my employer to judge. Fire away bro, and if you want to get the sleeve afterwards, wear longsleeve shirts. Be yourself, but don't give the small minded a reason not to hire you. May all your ink be meaningful!

get as many as you want, but think long and hard if you are going to get one below the sleeve.....it gets pretty warm during the summer in long sleeves!

So it's obvious that you've never woken up from being drunk in Subic Bay.:D

I've got my face tattoo-ed, I had my teeth ground into fangs, I've got my mouth, tongue, and eyelids pierced. Before my interview I smoked a pack of marlboros.
All my ink has meaning. Screw those small minded losers that do the hiring.

Sounds like you are describinh a buddy from my '07 newhire class at CAL. I always give him crap Because he wears the blazer in the summer...but he has to becuase he needs to wear the long sleeve shirt to cover up and long sleeve with the blazer is a must.

My advice is do what you want and be happy. Get the tat.

I know someone going through lazer removal right now. She is leaving behind one lifestyle and trying to get into a more professional type job. Color is the most difficult to get removed. Treatment feels like pretty severe burns.

So my advice for tats is just like real estate: location, location, location.

Keep it meaningful. Minimize the color.
