How competitive am I?
 

Hey guys,
Just wanted to say a quick merry Christmas to everyone on the forum, and hopefully a better year for ALL OF US in 2010. I get alot of great tips out of this forum, so just wanted to say thanks.

I have about 1250 total time, and 170 multi, no turbine at all. Im looking to get on board with a cargo operator down in the southeast florida region, but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on whether or not my above times would be competitive for a 135 position with Cape air, Key Lime, Mountain Air Cargo, flight express, etc.

Before you say, "Just apply to all of them...", be honest of what my chances of getting a job there would be. I know I can shotgun blast my resume, but I don't wanna waste time if it gets me no where.

Sorry to broadcast this across the "hiring news" domain, I just figured this would be the best way (quickest) to get an answer. Sorry mods if this was wrong place to post this.

Time isn't bad. However, there are a slew of others with more time looking for jobs, so it is more a matter of competition. Generally, 1000/100 was bare minimum to get a job and you've got that. Your only issue now is recession related competition.

If you meet 135 mins, which it looks like you do, I would consider yourself competitive. I've said many times on this board, there are guys with 30,000 hours and 10 lunar landings who lack flying ability. Then there are the low time guys who fly well. You've got a solid foundation, so give them all a shot. I know that's not what you wanted to hear.

You sound like you've got the hours to be competitive. If you're targeting a particular company start networking - find someone who works for them and see if they'll walk your resume in for you. It's tough out there. Those who have jobs are hanging on to them so finding a company that's hiring may be your biggest obstacle. Good luck!

Get out there and network well and that will make you the most competitive guy in the room. Shake some babies and well you know how it goes

Good advice....im gonna hit the schools and companies next week, gotta get my medical renewed this week. I will let everyone know how it goes. Thanks again for all your help.

Just a quick little info about aviation. It's all about timing, if you don't send your resume out you will never say "that was perfect timing"

I agree dwn3grn...Im going to blast a bunch of fbo's, 135 ops, and 121 ops next week and hopefully get a few bites. Im sure someone is hiring, it's all about getting your name out there and latching onto a keeper. Thanks for the advice, do you really fly the F-4? I thought they were out of commission? I actually just interviewed with a KC-135 unit in NJ, haven't heard back yet, I think I'm too old (28)!
