Normal to check?

Sorry guys, but I donæt know if my question really belongs to this group.

I have applied for an airline. They called and told me that they were going to confirm my documents and hours from the authority where I live. Is that normal? They said that there were so many people lying about the hours and certificates that they were enforced to check it out. To begin with I thought it was strange. BUt when I thought about it, it gave sense.

Have you ever experienced that? Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing you're not asking about a US airline. In the US the airline can check the FAA records to see that you have the certificates you claim. There is no official record of flight time (other than your log book and it is only signed off while you're receiving instruction) so there is no way to verify your claimed hours.

Actually, Twin Wasp, that's not true. There are records - books that a company keeps as to what aircraft was flown when, and often by whom. It's pretty easy to spot-check with a phone call to the company.

As to your question Pattupilot - it's not normal to inform the candidate you're going to do this - and really, it's not normal to take the time. Usually a simple interview can determine if there is padding in a logbook. That said, it might be routine for this particular company. It is normal to request ratings from the FAA and/or to view the actual certs in person.

Interesting that they said this to you. But hey, we're dealing with people here and everyone has a different method or style of screening.
