Default Road to the majors?

I'm a military reservist with 3000 TT (currently G-IV), everything turbine and plenty of multi-jet, but only 650 multi-PIC. The majors aren't calling as fast as I'd like, so I'm looking at less optimal choices for now: Ameriflight, Horizon or Omni. I'm fully aware of the lifestyle and pay tradeoffs among them. These choices have arisen largely due to location constraints imposed by my domestic boss. Which option is the best for getting the call from the majors, controlling for paying the bills?

Thanks.

You too good to be slumming it at the regional airlines?

Now, now, no need to be a first class jerk about this. The fella was just asking a question.

And speaking of such questions, they rightfully belong in the Career forum. So I'll just be moving this over there.

Note to all others who have career questions - post them in Career, not in Major, Major Subforums, Regional, Cargo, etc etc. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. It was my first post, so I don't claim to be a pro of the forums.

No, but given my experience, I have a legitimate shot at a major, but until that happens, I'm asking the best course of action with the presented options. I'm acutely familiar with reality... Hence, my question.

Personally, I think you'd be better off flying a wide body internationally than a Q400 or an RJ, but that's just one opinion.

Thank you for a useful reply! Omni sounds like the most interesting, but I wondered if the multi-PIC at AMF outweighed the heavy FO time. The Omni trips sound close to what I'm used to... And awesome.

It's true you will rack up more flight time at 135 and get PIC time faster. However, you'd better like back side of the clock flying and long duty cycles. Every job has trade offs. Make sure the one you choose has the kind that are acceptable.

Do you live in your 135 or Regional base? If not, home basing is worth it's weight in gold. Think about the difference between a Boeing Type rating vs. flying an RJ/Q/King Air. If you're ex-military, you have a leg up. If not, you'll need A LOT more total time to be competitive for the Majors.

Good Luck with whatever you decide, but remember one thing...you really don't have any decision until you get that Conditional Job Offer (CJO). When I came out of the military, I blanketed the world with resumes. You'd be surprised who might take your bait.

Perfect feedback. Thank you. The shotgun of applications is done, I'm going crazy waiting for a call.
