Got out... looking to get back in

Left professional flying at the end of 2007 for various reasons and have been flirting with the idea of getting back in. I am aware of the tough market. I guess the looming question is: Do I even stand a chance amongst the thousands of current and qualified pilots out there?

My vitals
ATP, 2 type ratings
TT 7,000
91,121,135 experience

Since I left, I did a few contract trips with my last employer and still fly the Cessnas/Pipers to stay current and fresh.

To a prospective employer/interviewer (should I make it that far), how is being out of professional flying viewed?

I can hear some of you think "You got out?! Good for you! But you want back in?"

I know the ultimate answer lies within myself. How bad do I want to get back into flying will determine how motivated I am to seek the jobs. But I'm looking for a realistic, no bullsh!t point of view.

I dont see it being to much of an issue, there are thousands of pilots on the street with the same experience and times that havent flown in a couple years, except they are on furlough... As long as you can explain why you got out, why you are getting back in, and do it in a way that shows you are commited to this career... I think any potential employer would want to insure you arent going to jump ship after investing in your training. Just my 2 cents, good luck!

Excel is right with his response. They are going to be concerned about their ROI so you'll need to prove to them that you will pass their training and are committed for the long haul. I would attend any open houses that the airline you want is hosting/attending. Get the straight skinny from the horses-mouth. Just as you want a no BS answer, so will they. So be ready.
