Job Fair - April $139.00
 

Hi Guys/Gals,

April job fair is up for a little $139.00 to get in. Is it a real job fair or just some people is trying to cash us out. Abuse.:mad:

When the job fair pays ME the $139.00 to attend I will believe we are in for a shortage

I think that price is way too much in my opinion , however I will be the first to say going to job fairs has always had great results. I have never been to one where I didn't at least get a interview. And my current regional job is also from one. My buddy got airtrain that way just two months ago. So don't tell me 100 bucks isn't worth a job your trying to get. It allows you to meet and greet the people doing the hiring and separates you from the 1000 resumes they have via a computer file.

Meeting and shaking people hands in real life is better than any old well written resume.

I know not everyone sees it that way but just my two cents ...

Was invisible in the database of apps. Went to a job fair on Friday and got called for an interview on the next Tuesday. Was in class 2 month later. I am convinced it was the job fair that got me the job. If you don't want to spend $139 maybe you really don't want the job.

They're providing you a service...why shouldn't they charge you? Should they just rent a hotel and assemble the HR departments from your dream jobs and do it for a loss? I can't believe some of the BS we pilots b!tch about.

I wonder how many guys gave up jobs at Airtran->Southwest because paying $100 was beneath them. Talk about tripping over a dollar to save a dime.

No, they shouldn't do it for a loss. They SHOULD charge the companies attending a fee to introduce them to such fantastic applicants.

Ask yourself this: how many job fairs in OTHER industries charge applicants? The answer, darn few.

In other industries you're not penalized for jumping from job to job with probation pay, making your dream job even more distant.

But that's neither here nor there.

Charge the companies for giving applicants basically a face-to-face opportunity they otherwise wouldn't have? Please. It's not like there's a shortage of applicants and they need to pay the Job Fair some kind of Head-Hunters fee. We're lucky Airline HR departments are willing to do this. Airlines themselves used to charge $50 per app.

Right, wrong, or indifferent, you have to ask yourself if the price of admission is worth the services tendered. I'm sure the place will be full of people who think so. If you land a job at a Major for double the salary, was the few hundred dollars spent at a couple job fairs worth it? Oh well, like I said, the only thing worse than whiny pilots are Generation Y whiny pilots who think they should get something for nothing. If you're cheap, don't go...but don't argue that you're somehow entitled to a service that everyone else should pay for but yourself.
