Letter of recommendation
 

I'm looking to apply to a company and want to get a recommendation from someone that works there. I know someone thats willing to turn in my resume, but it's a friend of a friend. He said to write something up and he'll put his name on it. Not knowing each other I'm not sure what to write and I don't want to lie about knowing each other. I was thinking of just a generic character recommendation but don't know where to start. Please help

I have this letter in my stack, details changed to protect the innocent. I drafted this and asked my former CP to sign it and he did with no changes. You do not want to draft anything too outlandish or sell your abilities or performance short.

He also keeps meticulous records, gets along well with others, and works as a team member when required. He is a safe and capable pilot whom I trusted to get the job done for our clients. I can sincerely recommend him to your firm.

In aviation, it's usually best if a reference can say that he has flown with you. Sometimes a friend-of-a-friend will want to go for a quick airplane ride in a cessna or something just to punch that ticket. That way they can provide a better recommendation and have some level of comfort with your flying ability.

This is just slightly off topic....
I was wondering when someone is requested to submit LOR's along with a resume, should they be the original signed copies of the LOR or will scanned copies suffice?

Ideally, you should have multiple originals so you have one for each potential employer.

Otherwise if it's a generic letter that you might need again, keep the original (bring it to the interview) and provide copies. If the letter is specifically addressed to that employer, give them the original and keep a copy for yourself.

Not a big deal either way.
