getting fired from a 121 job
 

I did some searching but didn't find what I was looking for. In 2007 I was fired from a 121 job and wasn't given a good reason. The reason was I couldn't fill out forms correctly, (seriously). The real reason dosen't matter to me as the result is the same. I had a letter in my file for a mistake that I made two years previous from getting fired. I tried to resign but they wouldn't let me. What do I say or put down in an interview. I asked the previous company to give me a letter stateing why I was fired and they refused. I got hired at another 121 company and have been working there since and I would get a good recomendation from them. My sponsor for the job I am trying to get knows about the whole thing and he is willing to recommend me. I am just curious on how to handle this when it comes up since I really don't know what the other company will say.

The challenge here is that in the case of a termination a potential employer needs certain things to achieve "closure" on the incident and consider hiring you...

1. They need honesty and up-front disclosure.
2. They need you to acknowledge your errors, take responsibility, and tell them what you learned.
3. They need to believe you are a better person/pilot after the experience.

You problem is #1...if you can't give them a good, believable reason for being fired they will assume there is something you are not telling them!

If you were on probation it might be plausible that you were fired for minor clerical errors. Otherwise you need a better explanation. Worst case, tell them the reason you were given and explain that you think the real reason was personality conflict. Accept full responsibility for not being a good team player, tell what you learned about yourself and how the experience has helped you to improve your inter-personal and teamwork skills.

Under the circumstances, this explanation would be hard to contradict, sounds plausible, and is probably pretty close to the truth anyway...

Thanks, I was trying to figure out what I would tell them theat I learned. I guess how to be a better team player sound good. I was thinking of calling the old DO and just asking him what he was going to say when called? I hope that my track record at my current airline will show the prospective employer that I have been able to correct my issues with "personality conflict". The real reson is far more complicated I don't want to come off as I am putting the blame on the company. I refused to fly a plane that was broke. There was an investigation by the FAA but the company never got fined just a slap on the hand.
