Background affecting future employment
 

I posted this question on yahoo questions earlier but wanted to get opinions from people in this profession.

Hello,

I am currently starting my junior year in college and should be graduating soon with a bachelor's degree in airway science, along with my commercial pilots license. Before i decide to complete this route(my minor is in business so i can change if necessary), i wanted to get a professional opinion on wether or not i could still get a job flying with my background.

TICKETS
Expired License Plate - 2008
Speeding - 2008
No Motorcycle Endorsement - 2008
Failure to Yield - 2008
No Motorcycle License - 2009
No Vehicle Insurance - 2009
Speeding - 2009

OTHER
Class C Misdemeanor - "Disorderly Conduct" for handing a police officer a fake I.D. outside a night-club when i was under the age of 21, resulting in a 500 dollar fine. - 2009
Class B Misdemeanor - "Racing on Highway" Conviction (5 days in jail and 1000 dollar fine) - I was going extremely fast on my motorcycle, pulled over for the cop and the rest is history. 100% my fault. - 2009

With all this history, is a career in this field still plausible?

I realize that many people say not to pursue this profession, but with all due respect, that is not my question. I plan on getting a Masters in Business Administration anyway, so if that helps to offset my past that would be a plus.

I personally don't see a chance. You'd have to find a pretty hard up company, and I'll bet it won't be fun to work for.

In ten+ years, who knows? There's no drugs / alcohol, right? The repeatedly not following the rules might be easier to overlook in 10+ years with a sterling record.

Yes, you might get a crappy regional job then.

Edit: you are CRAZY to get a degree in something that you have such long odds of doing. Get a degree in something else.

There is no point in getting a bachelors in business. Everybody does this and it does not set you apart from your competition. In order to qualify for a masters program, all you need is a minor. I have gone this far so i may as well finish as i am paying in full for everything (no loans). If i cant get a job, at least i can fly for fun and as i said, I plan on getting my MBA. No alcohol or drugs whatsoever, the details are as stated.

You may be able to get a decent job in 2020 if that's what you really want. If you can handle cfi'ing until then there may be light at the end of the tunnel, though you do need to focus on another career (read: making money to survive first year pay) until then. You wouldn't be the first to start a flying career at a later age. My first 121 job came at 34 years old.

Mine was 45.

That is a very positive way to look at it. I guess i will focus on something else and continue to fly on the side.

Not a chance in the near term.

Street racing = gross recklessness in the eyes of the airlines.

2x No Motorcycle license = doesn't learn from past mistakes or even care.

I assume you are under age 25? If you maintain a spotless record (and I do mean SPOTLESS, with zero exceptions) you might have a shot 10+ years down the road.

I would not pursue an aviation career full-time, you will incur too much dues paying and lost opportunity costs with almost no chance of a payoff in the near-term. Go get a real job, save money, and maybe CFI on the side. You can build hours at your own pace (you have ten years to do so) and maybe get into corporate on the side after you make some connections.

If pilot demand, your desires, and your qualifications all line up later on in life you can make a decision then.

There is of course life outside the airlines, and it can be a pretty good one. Charter, freight, corporate, etc. You may still have some explaining to do, but you are FAR more likely to be given a second chance outside the 121 environment.
