keeping the thread alive...

So, most of the TMAAT seem pretty straight forward, but I've seen one from United on a lot of the recent gouge that I can't answer. Question is: "TMAAT you failed to keep a commitment."

Are those open to professional and personal? Professionally, I can't recall a time I did.

Personally, sure it happens, kids get sick, so you fall out of a commitment, but really that's all I can think of, is that valid?

To me, Most of the TMAAT questions are getting to know you. Who you are as a person, this is why I try to stay clear of flying stories as much as I can. Have I ever fall out of a commitment? I told my wife I would be home around late afternoon, and I didn't make it home till much later because of traffic. Have you told a lie? I told my kids Santa Claus is coming. Have I stolen anything? I talked about when I was a child how I took something from a friend that wasn't intentional. You see what I'm getting at? Try to make every answer positive. Even when they ask about something like "what don't you like about you current company" start with what you like then work in the negatives. If you want to bring up flying stories. 3 parts you have to consider, in this order. Is it safe? Is it legal? Is it efficient?

with these TMATT style questions, does an HR interviewer want to hear all work related stories, or should life outside of flying experiences be part of the answer as well?

Thanks
I know i'm a little late to this but, You want to know is it work related. Well, is the question about work or not?

TMAAT "You had issues with a CA/FO you flew with" now look at
TMAAT "What is the best trip you ever had"

When we see the 2nd question we go right to thinking about a trip at work. Did it say that? I look at it as "My best trip was a family vacation"

Same with strenght and weakness. We try to think of what we do best at work or what I'm not good at. How about your personal life? What are your hobbies, what are you good at? Weakness? I'm not a good cook, stuff like that. If they want a work related question, you will know it.

TMATT "You helped out the company"
TMATT "You stepped in between a passenger and a crew member"

vs

TMATT "You lied to someone"
TMATT "You learned something"

See the difference? It doesn't mean you can't use a general question and apply it to aviation, I just wouldn't use the negative for aviation stuff.

This is my favorite "Have you ever been in chief pilot's or base manager office"

Most common answer is "No, my chief pilot doesn't even know who I am"

You may think, "oh that's good, you stayed out of trouble"

Why not turn it into a positive experience, "Yes, when I first got to my new based, I went to his/her office to introduce myself, this way he/she knows knows who I am, and have small talk with him for a little bit."

I don't know about you but I like to have a positive/professional relationship with my base manager/chief pilot. We introduce yourself to new crew members we work with right? so why not do the same with your base manager or people who works in the office.

This reminds me of my first real flying job, which was flying freight in the middle of the night. One night I checked the weather at home base and it was 100 overcast and 1/4 mile and I called the chief pilot at 11pm and woke him up and said Dude where is the alternate for tonights weather? he almost laughed me off the phone, lol. Alternate? there is no alternate, we have never not been able to get in. I said but its 100 and 1/4 and he said "yeah so?" keep coming down you'll get in, I promise lol.

Lol, my friend has a similar freight story about the owner handing him a handwritten approach plate to fly in the 1980's. Turn east and follow the highway, turn south at the railroad tracks.
