It's not considered a busted checkride by the FAA, but whoever you're interviewing with may consider it a busted checkride. I was kicked out of an interview with Eagle for reporting an end of course failure under the stage check failures box instead of under the FAA checkride failures box. They told me that they consider any failure of a stage check that would have given you a certificate or rating equivalent to a checkride failure and it should be logged as such on their application.
My official logbook just says "Lesson #30 stage check unsatisfactory" but some airlines want you to log it as a checkride failure. Be careful.
