PT or PC in logbook...
 

I have never had a sim instructor or ground instructor make an entry in my logbook for a PC or PT...In fact, I was told a long time ago that I couldn't even log the sim time....Is this correct???

You can log whatever you want.... its YOUR logbook. I have never seen an employer that was really interested in SIM time anyway. It should not be added in to your total time...but log it? sure.

Yes you can log sim time. You can actually credit sim time towards your instrument training.

I would log sim time, just not as total time.
I would also log PCs/PTs as it is a good reference of when your last check was and esp useful when you get furloughed.

SIM time cannot be logged without an instructors signature.

Many 121 instructors don't want to sign your book because you could might go out and crash in part 91 and they might be liable somehow.

61.51 says to have sim time count towards instrument time for a rating an instructor has to sign the record and also says any training, whether in an aircraft or a sim, has to have the instructor sign the record of training. No where does it say all sim time has to have an instructor's signature.

Poor choice of words on my part. You can log anything you want, including time in coach class commuting to/from work.

But to count for FAA ratings and currency, sim training has to be conducted by an authorized instructor who has to sign the record. The record could be your airline's training form, as opposed to your logbook.

I would also venture a guess that most employers would not accept sim time without an instructor signature.

You can't just go knock out 6 approaches, a hold, and intercepting/tracking in a frasca all by yourself, log it, and be legal.

If I want to brush up on my skills after extended mil leave, I just use MS Flight Sim. Cheaper than a Frasca or ATC and gets the job done for scan and flows. But I don't log it.

Also regarding 121 sim instructors signing your logbook...some are not CFI's so they cannot sign part 91 endorsements like BFR or IPC. They are 121 instructors and will probably only feel comfortable signing 121 paperwork.

I log my sim time in the sim column. I don't care about instructor signatures at an airline (where I get me sim time). The company records exist, if I need it. I don't need it because I have a job. Even if I was applying for a job, I don't include sim time in anything because its not flight time. ;)
