Ageism
I have been hearing from people that entry into a regional airline at age 44 is almost impossible. I know that common sense would say that the age would not be a barrier. I am a person who decided to hold back on my career for a few years so that I could pay off college debt and buy a home. I refinanced my home and paid off college, so now I am ready to earn that famously low regional pilot pay. My feeling is that the airlines would not refuse me because of my advanced age, but I have been hearing that they will. Any thoughts and experiences? Thanks

age·ism also ag·ism ( j z m). n. Discrimination based on age, especially prejudice against the elderly.
Man, don't tell me 44 is considered elderly - I just hit it last week!
Whoever is telling you this is completely wrong. People are hired at regional and major airlines all the time, much older than 44...I had a 52 year old in my class at DL. One of my f/o's was a retired DL captain who came back and got rehired at 58.

In the old days no airline would touch you over age thirty.
But for several reasons, the practical cutoff today is around age 62. If AA still has their upgrade rule, they might be around age 55..not they will be hiring.
