How to obtain a type rating?
 

Anyone know how to get a type rating for either cheap or free? I've got an ATP with 1000PIC MEL and looking to move on to the 121 world. (Trying to make myself more marketable but have no regional experience)

Absolutely, fly for great lakes.

I wish I could. I've got a pretty kush job now flying navajos and I would probably make more on unemployment here than working for Great Lakes. I just know I won't be here forever and want to try and make myself stand out.

Actual turbine experience would be more beneficial than a type with no OE. Maybe a local king-air or citation operator needs a part-time SIC?

I forgot to add some of that info on my original thread post. I do have 100pic in C90s and a couple hours in a 350. Are there still govt programs that help "furloughed" pilots get types?

Are you near any FS or CAE training centers? You might be able to find a sim-right seat position which might get you a type.

If not just keep networking and companies will pay for it for the right applicant. Though it may require a training contract.

Go corporate. Let them pay for your type, see how the job goes then decide what your next step will be.

Is this a joke? What business pays for your type rating? They all require you to be typed to get the job.

You need to know what you're speaking of--loads of corporates pay for ratings. I'm in that part of aviation.

Ya I wouldnt say everyone does it but their are plenty of companies that will pay for the type.
