Women in Aviation Conference
 

Thinking of attending this year and had a few questions. Has anyone in the past attended and if so how were the lines like? I know this year it will probably be different with so many companies starting to hire, but is this any different than the other job fairs? I've heard horror stories about some job fairs where you will stand in line for hours at say United, and they only see you for a few seconds. It's a few hundred bucks to register and I just wanna make sure I get a chance to have some meaningful face time with some of the exhibitors. Thanks.

Are you male or female?

It doesn't matter if you are male or female. This is a great place to network. No, there aren't usually long lines. It's not just a job fair, it's a conference so there are all types of people there - students, military, mechanics, etc. Not just pilot job seekers. I'd say it's worth the entrance fee - you'll make some great contacts.

I've never been to other job fairs, but I'd agree that the it's not just a job fair. The people that attend the WAI conference aren't all looking for jobs, which makes it different than the typical job fair.

You'll get lots of face time with exhibitors. When I went a few years ago, I had the opportunity to talk to any and all exhibitors without waiting in line. At the most, the representative might be already speaking with someone when you arrive at the booth, but definitely no formal lines.

If you're determined to avoid the crowd, just go to the exhibit hall during one of the popular sessions if it's open.

Worth the price, in my opinion.

I received my issue of Aviation For Women today, I've mapped out the conference hall and what exhibitors I plan to visit.
Should be a very fun conference.

Has any male ever thought they received a interview by attending the WAI Conference?

I know for sure AS goes to both WIA and OBAP in search of pilot candidates.

That's what I like to hear!

Although, I wasn't considering going to the OBAP Conference this year, maybe I will reconsider.

WAI just hasn't had the volunteer opportunities that OBAP has. Since I've retired, I've really been enjoying volunteering with OBAP. I guess the best way to network with OBAP will be the conference, I tend to NOT do any networking while at the high schools, just comes off as distasteful a bit.

For those in the Little Rock area, WAI is meeting for a wine tasting at Lulav's this Wednesday. Should be a good time.

I've been to several WAI conferences, and the lines aren't terribly long. I've always had time to talk to whoever I wanted to, and I've always been able to chat with people at the Fedex, UPS, United, etc, booths even though I'm nowhere close to being qualified to work at those.

Also, there's always been quite a few guys there. I don't know about if I men have gotten interviews through the WAI conference, I would assume so. I do have a friend (male) that won a type rating scholarship at conference a couple years ago, so it isn't an exclusively all-women thing.
