Can we please make a thread of all of the previous threads/posts that say, "Don't major in aviation"? Jeezus, beat a dead horse enough it's going to just keep coming alive.

I'd have the same job I have now even if I had a business or engineering degree, and I'd be a lot more employable if I lose my medical or decide to leave the airlines. I wish I was paying back college loans right now to fund my engineering/business degree. Not my Aviation degree.

In 10 years you'll probably thank yourself if you don't major in Aviation or don't go to ERAU.
Thanks for the advice. I agree the business degree is a much better option, especially for a business geared mind like mine. The only reason I'm considering this option is the ability to basically get 1/4 of my degree done just by having licenses. I only have 6 college credits so it is somewhat of a time sensitive issue...

Thanks for your opinion potatochip, but my question is not "should I do an aviation related degree."

Cheers

What online schools have you been looking at if you don't mind me asking? I've been looking at tagging another bachelor's while on the road.

No problem, I was looking at athabasca university, a Canadian school. They allow you to do a mix of online and brick and mortar classes as well. Lots of programs too. Google them!

I think you will be happy with an ERAU education. Especially if you pursue it through the extended campus/online. It is a lot more affordable than attending a residental campus, especially with the credits you will get for your ratings.

As far as the accreditation goes, your degree is identical to a degree recieved from Daytona or Prescott. There is no difference for the online program.

I had the same post about career question. Honestly, I can't complaint about ERAU. I am attending ERAU currently, hands down it's the best aviation related school ... EVER (in my opinion, please don't start an arguement).

People say that we ERAU kids drives BMW, spiked hair, Louis Vuitton back pack ... Can't argue there, because that's what I am. But please understand that when you attend ERAU, sure it's very pricey but it will pay off in the long run.

I have a point to make ... Keep reading ...

My parents' close friend attended ERAU long ago ... long long ago ... Obtaining degree in Business Aviation ... She started out working as an assistant manager for a local charter company ... Few years later ... She managed KLAX operation ... Morale of the story is that ... ERAU is very expensive, yes, but in the long run is very worth it.

Again this is my opinion .... But of course if you want high paying job ... You have to work hard and stay mentally strong.

That is all ...

Also the benefit of attending ERAU is that you make high connections. I met a friend who recently graduate who I thought was just a normal person, turns out that his father is a very well known person in the airline industry in another country (notice I did not mention names or country or airlines[privacy purposes])

ERAU is world wide known ... People from every corner of the world are coming just to attend the school ... So in conclusion this is not only "A SCHOOL" but it's world wide competition ... You (as a student) are competing againts the Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Swedish, English, Germans ... Etc .... You will gain confident and self pride if you attend ERAU and get minimum of 3.5 GPA, and that's what the airlines is looking for, self confident, discipline, and compentancy.

I did the standard ERAU masters on AF active duty. I also interviewed over 100 college grads for AF officer/pilot slots over 2 years. I was in FL so many were from Embry Riddle both Daytona and satellites in Miami/FLL. I saw the full spectrum of kids--rich, poor and in between.

My 2 cents--for most jobs a degree is a degree--are you willing to do the work and finish the program in a reasonable period (my daughter is on her 3rd year of being a junior--I quit paying years ago). I always wanted a good justification for those who took forever to finish. Just having a degree will open doors and statistics show you will earn more.

For really competitive jobs of course the school and grades can make a huge difference.

For AF slots we had a select rate of about 5-10%.

Your resume tells more of the whole story--I had one ERAU student who had 3.0, flew for pay on the weekend (800 hours), and worked several jobs all through college. I had other UofF or FL state grads who had great GPAs but had little to no other involvement or work experience.

Throw a masters on top and you will separate yourself even more from the masses regardless of job choices you make.

Sign up--get it done as soon as possible.
