Never done the job fair thing before.

At the last job fair Spirit attended the recruiting team stayed until they talked to every person. The job fair in Las Vegas officially ended at 5 PM and they stayed until 7:30 PM. The Spirit recruiters like to attend the job fair because they use the event as a mini interview. All of the major airlines are aware of the number of attendees expected and are asked to bring a sufficient number of recruiters. None of the major airlines have stated that they will be leaving early.

One change to the job fair schedule is that Spirit Airlines will be making a presentation from 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM.

If you are planning to attend the job fair, a couple of reminders:
  • PLEASE come prepared. Make sure you have done your homework on the companies you are targeting. Don't give the recruiters general answers to their questions. Provide specific facts about the company, about yourself and why you want to work there. Study up while you are waiting for your number to be called.
  • Make sure you wear a suit and tie to make a great first impression. The recruiters will look you over from head to toe.
  • Your resume should look clean and be easy to read. Please print your resume on resume paper, not copier paper.
  • You will not be personally notified when your number comes up with an airline. Please pay attention to the numbers on the display units. We will tweet the Take-A-Numbers for each airline every 20 minutes to give you an update.
  • The most important thing to bring is a positive attitude. It means everything to the recruiters. They are looking for motivated individuals who will be a success at their airline.
We are here to help everybody achieve their career goals. If anybody has a question about the job fair in Chicago send us an email at mail@AeroCrewSolutions.com

It depends. Are you interested in working at Spirit? Unless you've already got an interview lined up with them and you're interested in working at Spirit, it's DEFINITLEY worth it.

For US Airways, if you haven't been to a job fair where Airways has been at, then it's probably worth it to attend. It can't hurt. If you have already attended a job fair where you met with Airways folks, probably not worth going to another with them.

Can't talk to Virgin, I don't meet their mins, so no sense in talking to them for me, BUT if you do meet their mins, it can't hurt. I don't know enough about Virgin to know if attending a job fair for them does much.

Like Aero Crew Solution said, if you signed up, you'll get to talk to the recruiters, even if you're the last person. Hey, it can't hurt to be Mr. Irrelevant, right? Might actually work put in your favor.

You know, this whole job fair concept, is great in theory, but in practice, I'm starting to doubt it. After spending two days traveling to and from LAS, paying to get in, and paying for a hotel and food I feel like it was not worth it at all. I was one of the first to sign up for the fair and got in quickly, but felt like the airways people could care less about talking to the pilots. It was literally, " give me your email address, and I'll email you when the window reopened"... Didn't take anyone's resume, didn't pull up their app, showed no interest in anyone in line, an it seemed like they just wanted to get out of there... And then to top it all off, I never even got and email when the window reopened, neither did another guy I knew there! Not sure what this fair in ord will be like, but if it is going to be like this, I wouldn't spend my money on it.... Ymmv....

Will there be a place to stow rollerbags or backpacks at the Westin anywhere?

I am quite sure the Airways portion of this job fair is going to be about the same. I'm surprised the pilot recruiters seemed to be uninterested. At WAI, they were engaging, gave a great, small-group presentation and answered a lot of questions. They were very apologetic about the application system that was forced upon them, but gave me some great advice concerning my résumé.

The Spirit portion of the job fair should be a complete 180. A Spirit recruiter will give a presentation on the company from a Pilot's perspective. The one i attended in LAS also had an HR lady who answered HR-type questions (healthcare, pay, etc.). Even some humor thrown in there competing with an Herbalife conference going on next door.

When it came time to talk to the recruiters and HR personnel, I won't lie, it was busy and rushed. A lot of people were there to talk to Spirit. I got to talk for about 8 minutes with HR, she was engaging, really nice and answered my questions honestly.

I think Spirit is going to continue hiring, if you're interested in flying for them, I'd attend. I'll be there.

Default Dress for Success

What's the best shirt to wear to a job fair?

White, blue, straight collar or button down?

Default Age group?

Guys,

What is the age group of pilots attending these job fairs?

I assume they are under age 65.

Thanks.

Most of the guys I met were probably in their low 30's, mainly regional guys looking to move up. The military guys tend to be a little older, low 40s.
The guys there strictly for the regionals tend to be younger still.

I'd dress like you were going in to interview. I wear black suit, white shirt, red or blue tie depending on my mood. You only get one chance at a first impression. I saw a guy at LAS in brown suit, yellow tie, blue shirt and red shoes. Looked cool if he was going to a Beck concert, not sure an airline wants that kind of "coolness".
