Default CFI renewal questions

I did a search and have found some older information.

Has anyone renewed their CFI lately? Which online courses come recommended?

Default CFI renewal questions

American Flyers. Pay once, and you can renew for life.

Gleim is the quickest course I know of, but is the most expensive over time.

+ 1 for American Flyers. Pay once and renew for the rest of your career...well, as long as American Flyers stays in business and since they've been around a while, I like to think I'll get at least 2 or 3 out of them and that'll still put me ahead of most other online FIRCs out there.

How is the content of American Flyers online FIRC? I understand that its pay once for life, and that's great. I am more curious to know about the actual content of the course compared to other online FIRCs (AOPA, King, etc.)

How many hours does it take to get thorough?

I got through it in around an hour. Content seemed similar to most of the others. I just clicked through it without reading 99% of it and passed with no problem. It's an open book test and each lesson is in PDF form. Knowing how to use CTRL+F in a PDF = guaranteed 100%.

+1 for American Flyers....paid once in the early-90's and have renewed at every odd-numbered year since.

If you have an 80% pass rate, you can renew for free at the FSDO. Just need to bring a record of your signoffs (depending on your FSDO, a list from IACRA could suffice)

Not only an 80% pass rate, but that needs to be based on a minimum of 5 recommendations. In other words if you had 4 of 4 of your students pass their practical check ride (100% pass rate), this wouldn't meet the requirement because its not based on a total of 5 applicants.

I do AOPA a every time and it has worked well for me. Like someone else said, mostly click through without reading then take the test in each section.

Here's another question to add to the mix. My renewal month is November. I completed a FIRC course in August and took my paperwork to the FSDO at the beginning of September. I haven't received my certificate in the mail yet. Should I expect to see it in November or should the certificate have been here by now? This is the first time I have ever renewed early, so it is a new territory of experience. Thanks ahead of time!
