Internships
Its about that time in my aviation career where I really start to take a look at some resume builders that will help me stand out from the group. One of the most important(in my eyes) being an internship. Anyone know of any great paid/unpaid internships that are out there? Can't seem to find too many at the regional level and all the majors(DAL,AA,SW) only select a handful of people each year. Just trying to get my feet wet. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!

ABX Air just posted one. It is doing revisions on their Jepp ship sets. That part of the it blows, but you see the inner workings of 121 flight department and there is a 76 and DC9 sim available to have some fun in. I started out doing this only for a few weeks before moving within the company, but have since left to fly.

Internships with majors will lead to preferential hiring, or at least interviews with their affiliated regional carriers. I interned with AA and on airline apps was given a special drop down box that indicated I was an intern when applying to Eagle. Other regionals just want you to see that you were an intern for some sort of airline. A few years back when I was with AA, we had 26 of us accepted as flight ops and other aviation department interns. So to say there aren't that many positions out there, I wouldnt go that far. Delta, United, American, Southwest, Alaska are just a few places out there with great internship programs.
Apply to all of them and see who calls you back.

^^ Agreed. I'm a 2007 summer AA intern and that has helped me with getting a job at Eagle.
Also, if you want to reduce the amount of competition, consider doing an internship during either the fall or spring semester. They're longer semesters anyway....that summer went by fast!
