Missing Phone Calls and Calling Back
I recently missed a phone call from an regional recruiter last Thursday. I was out on a trip and was unable to find the time during normal business hours before the weekend to call the recruiter back. I called yesterday morning and got voice mail. I didn't leave a message until I called back in the afternoon. My question is did I sink myself by not being able to get back to the recruiter in a timely fashion? Commutair is the airline. I've had this situation before with another regional and they called me back within the hour of me leaving a voice mail and everything went smoothly from there on out.
Anyways any insight is always appreciated. Also I don't want to be a pest, what is appropriate for follow up phone calls with a hard to get in touch with recruiter? |
Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. Sometimes the airline may need to keep moving down a call list due to their own time constraints, but I don't think they'll hold it against you if you actually made a diligent effort to get back to them. If you really want the job, make a more exhausting attempt to contact them.

I would leave a VM message the same day (even middle of the night) so they know you're interested. Then I would keep trying daily or several times a day until you get hold of someone. If you absolutely can't get hold of them, send an email.
It would be a stretch to say you couldn't find time to call them back over several weekdays. Take a few minutes (and a delay if needed) and go in a bathroom stall. The only plausible excuse for not calling within one work day would be military deployment to somewhere austere. |
I got the call late Thursday night and my Friday morning/afternoon was pretty hectic with 5 legs and all quick turns. Is that an excuse? No not really but after leaving the voice mail yesterday, I got a call this afternoon to schedule an interview. Actually I got three calls today from three different places and scheduled two interviews. Sorry RAH, schedule is full. Its crazy how quick everything happens when crossing 1500.
