Help in decision

Hello all...

I'm a former Naval Aviator who mostly few helos. I've got just over 2000 (again mostly helos, although I do have C-150/152, C-172/172RG, PA-44, and T-37 time).
My ratings are Pvt Sgl Eng Land - Inst
Comm Multi-Landl - Inst, Helo Inst.

I currently am a foreman at a factory and find myself constantly wishing I were back in the cockpit. I'm willing to get current again, as I've not flown since '07,and have looked into options. My question is this, what (if any) side jobs are available for someone who most likely will end up at the regionals?

Side Note: After I got out, I did interview with AE but turned it down because of the lack in pay...I have a family and need to sustain a minimum of 45k. (a heck of a stretch I know...that's why I'm asking for help here).

Try Helo EMS or off-shore oil...better starting pay, 7&7 schedule, etc. Pretty good $ once in a ME IFR Helo...check out Home for more info. Also, APTAP.org - Professionals Helping Professionals has lots of us Helo bubbas on that forum. Good luck!

I'm in the exact same boat, former Navy helo, etc. Do you have a an off-line contact?

PM me if you can and I'll reply to that.

Helo to regionals.

Your time should have a favorable conversion in this market. The demand is there however it hasn't made it's way to the paycheck.

I'm guessing the only way to start at 45K+ is going to be a 135 or corp. gig.

With your background, a couple years at a regional would get you back to a survivable salary. Maybe add Natl Guard or Reserves to the mix if it's not too late.

Good luck.

Billyp…have you called around to local FBO's to see if they are looking for a part time FO for seat fill insurance savings. That would be the first step in opening up a door to a part time flying gig with your flying background. I'm not sure if your looking for a regional with your income requirements as that would certainly be more than "on the side" flying less than half of 45k your first three years. If the regionals is an option to explore, ExpressJet accepts help time and reduced mil time (you could get your ATP, grab a year of flight hours and maybe catch the upcoming wave @ a major) In the end, it's a gamble that you must weigh on your own and the commander at home! Good Luck!!

Herkjet, thanks for the information. Could you clarify what "help time" is?

Thanks

Sorry, Helo time..my spell checker keeps editing. I would also check baseop.net under aviation job posts.
