Interview Prep
 

Any suggestions as to whom to use for Interview Prep and Consulting? I've narrowed it down to AeroCrew Solutions, Emerald Coast Consulting or Cage Consulting. Any words of advice of which to choose? Thanks.

I did ECC and would highly recommend them. That being said, The folks from ECC don't have a bad word to say about any of the other prep courses and just recommend you get prep from whichever course fits you and your schedule. I think it is more of a pick your poison type of deal. ECC comes highly recommended through word of mouth by just about every military guy I have talked to. I have also read a lot of good reviews for aero crew solutions.

For a good prep book check out "Checklist for Success" by Cheryl Cage (the same person that does the interview prep in Denver). It's a great read, very fast, tells you what you need to know and only $20. I used it and aviation interviews.com questions to prep for mine. I did not do any official prep but I know there are some that feel the need to, and others that might benefit from it.

Either way that book is a great launching pad to get you started if you can't do the face to face prep right now. It really gets you thinking.

Another thing I did was read off some questions to people I was working with. I can tell you the way something comes out in your head might sound completely different to others. I find women tend to take things different than men as well. Also look up some psychology type things online, ie how does an interviewer tell if someone is lying? Not that you would, but it's important to understand that you need to tell the truth (or base it on a true story) and it's almost impossible to make something up and get away with it. There are tons of resources online and on Youtube (search for "Behavior interview"). All this can be done before you walk into the prep office if you still decide to do it, it will allow you to get more out of the experience.

I've read "Checklist for Success" and honestly wasn't that impressed.

After a prep course, I practice by sitting in front of a mirror in an empty room and blasting myself with the common interview questions at random to see how I answer them. Usually what I want to say and what I actually say are two different things, so practice practice!

As has already been said, Emerald Coast is outstanding. Their audio files alone are worth the price paid. After listening to them and developing my stories/answers, I ended up only spending an hour and a half over the phone with one of their consultants going over my responses (I didn't attend a seminar). She had no significant changes for my responses or presentation skills, which was great, but I did find that her approval gave me great confidence in knowing that my answers were solid. Paid off BIG in the UAL interview.

I wonder if anyone has had a bad experience with airline prep courses... for example, do some answers seemed too "canned" at the actual interview where you don't seem natural and yourself?
