How do you feel about China-Based positions?

China is still trying to get its act together and the FAA is trying to help...but progress in any Chinese project only has two speeds - slow and reverse. Still great strides have been made and 62 new airports across China are now under construction to accommodate the booming civil aviation market that just opened up in recent years. Air space and flight plans are still major snags but by the end of this year, restrictions will be lightened.

New corporate gigs are opening up and the majors are all staring up or expanding shuttle services. The demand for qualified pilots is growing. Would you be averse to flying China routes or is it something you'd like to explore? Why or why not? I have been here in China since 2005 and volunteer with the China Pilots Association (an expat NPO).

With continual hiring in the U.S. I'm not sure they will be able to meet any of their goals, unless they deal with reverse domiciling.

As a younger man with no kids, I would have explored that option. I think the type and quality of candidates here, in this job market, is more limited than you would like.

Americans by far are the least likely of any nationality to venture outside of its own borders for flying work. When the chips are down, yes. But when things in the states are good, nothing beats it. Personally having flown in and around mainland China, I would rather fly an RJ around for regional pay then be an English speaking expat anywhere in mainland China no matter what the pay. Actually if they paid $700K +/yr I would then consider it.
