Leave NetJets for a major????

Hi everyone!

Do you think it is a good idea to leave netjets for a major? Here is my situation. I am an FO making about $110k with o/t and per diem. If attrition continues at this rate, I hope to upgrade to captain in approx. 8 years, hence making approx. $190k. I have a family of four to provide for and would hate to uproot the kids, change schools, etc...
Do you think in the long term it is a wise decision to leave?

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance....

Just off the top of my head it seems it would come down to quality of life. If you left today for a major you'd take the initial pay cute, but could be back where you are now in 2-3 years. Also, your upgrade time seems like it would be about the same length of time away. Right now it looks like you'd have a higher ceiling with a major, but you're family situation would need to be considered and the seniority you'd forfeit with Netjets.

Seems like a wash to me.

In 15-20 yrs, with the current contracts, the early movers will be making $300K. In perhaps 25 yrs they'll be doing that while working 9 days a month.

Research the web. Through your research, conclude if being an airline pilot FO for UAL or DAL is what you want :) If it is, then go for it and never look back. You seem to be indecisive and want people to make decisions for you (As I witnessed in your "other" post). You are not hopeless/helpless and you are capable, at this level, to decide what is best for you and your family. The tools are out there. For every great economy, another downturn is around the corner waiting to start. Know this, have a plan B and make a decision. And a bit of friendly advice, in your upcoming interviews, do not be so indecisive.

It it were me, I would jump ship. Im a risk taker.

Good Luck,

TEN

How do you propose you'll be at $190k at upgrade?

Captain pay on the small stuff is no where near $190k.. Maybe on the GIV or Global...... But you know you won't see that as a PIC any time soon.

Worst case, at an airline, is you'll be a senior FO at 8 years making what you would have as a NJA PIC on a phenom or G200...

Only thing you'll miss from NJA is home basing ( pretty big deal), hotel points, and great food on the road compared to airport food.

I miss the days of ordering a breakfast burrito in PHX, Swordfish for lunch and some sort of rib dinner later on.

Friendly advice....offered with a slam.

You could think, he asked first question not very clearly, but understood the feedback and attempted to ask it better/clearer.

Thanks 10 years gone.... What does that mean? 10 yrs of what? I am posting, so that, it may help me make a decision. I am asking for advice, so that I will make the best decision for my family. You are correct that I am undecided, but you are wrong when you say that I am acting helpless. If anything, I am trying to be pro active....

Don't do it!

J/k, if you have the chance, and money is the main factor, I would jump ship. If you can survive on what you are making and enjoy the quality of life you have now, I would stay where you are at. Moving or commuting should be factored in as well and how your family feels about that.
