Going to the regionals at ATP minimums?
Hey all!
So after a lot of thought, I decided I am going to take the regional's pipeline. I have been instructing for just under a year now. I started instructing at my university for 6 months until my fiancée got a new job and we relocated. I quickly picked up instructing at the airport here as well as doing part-time corporate flying with them. Anyways, I am quickly approaching the ATP minimums (have the written done), should hit them in 3 months. I know a lot of the regionals I am looking at will interview 3 months prior to reaching ATP minimums. My question is will the regionals question that I have been with my current employer for so little time if I interview now (4 months now, 7 months when I am eligible for a class date)? I know instructing is just to time build to go to the regionals, but should I stay with my current employer longer so the regionals don't question it? Thanks! |

The regionals won't care or probably even ask why your leaving your current job all they want is for people to show up to class.

You'll be fine, and if the regionals are your goal, you'll be a shoe in.
My recommendation for you, is to do your homework now (being on this board is the right first step) to figure out which regional you want to work for. It'll be a different life for your fiance than instructing/corporate flights...you're going to be gone, A LOT...some can handle it, some can't, some love it, some don't. You'll learn very soon about how that goes. So, study up, and get those hours...the regionals will be knocking on your door as soon as you show an interest in working for them. |

It has been years since I have been involved with hiring pilots; though had you said that to me, that would have been the end of it. I might have asked a few more questions to throw you off, and thanked you for your time. Work on that attitude and best of luck. PS, How is the volunteering going?
