Default OBAP career fair

April 23rd.

Anyone know if this Organization is legit? And who typically shows to this fair?

Never been to a career fair. And considering it.

Thanks!

Hmm. There's a 50% chance this is a troll thread. I'll bite anyways.

The Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) is a legitimate and long-standing organization. Their conferences/career fairs are well-attended by airlines, who do a lot of recruiting there. Their membership is open to anyone of any race who supports greater minority involvement in aviation, and a large part of what they do is outreach to underprivileged urban youth. Lately, there have been a lot of non-minority members that have been attending their career fairs. I recently flew with a member of the OBAP board of directors and he indicated that they are aware of this trend and are 100% ok with it, so long as these members are supportive of OBAP's larger goals.

Well, I was interested in going to a career fair and didn't known where to start. Was told about these guys, and didn't know for sure. Any suggestions to others?

I absolutely guarantee Alaska Airlines will be at OBAP and WIA. They send a team of management/recruiters to both these meetings every year. Several "average Joes" have gotten hired after meeting the team at these events.

OBAP and WIA are a legit organization and you will definitely see a lot of recruiters from numerous carriers at these events. One thing to keep in mind is they are not "job fairs", but they are events you will get to meet recruiters at and many have credited their interview from going to one of these.

One airline, Delta, states via a disclaimer that they are only at these functions to discuss your aspirations to fly with Delta, but they don't give job opportunities here and everything is on airlineapps.

Does it help going? Maybe, maybe not. Hasn't done anything for me since the ones I went to.

WAI is probably #1. Every major airline, as well as numerous regionals, military, flight schools, FAA, universities was in attendance last year. I'd guess that this year might be bigger.

But it's not for guys wanting to become airline pilots. It's a fantastic convention for women in aviation that the HR departments attend and dual use their participation.

I went to an OBAP fair.... without it, I probably wouldn't have received an interview (at least when I did) with DAL. I talked with AK, and for whatever reason after reviewing my resume, he couldn't find my app in airline apps. We kept in contact, and when the DAL interviews started, I got the call....

So, yea, I think the job fair made a huge difference. Thousands of apps.... a ten minute meet-n-greet may be all one needs. It could have been coincidence, but I don't think it was.

Edit: Ultimately, I had to redo my airline apps as well... but I would have never known without the meet-n-greet.

Default OBAP career fair

This is a great job fair to go to. I have gone to several Obap career fairs . Def worth the time and effort . Be prepared to be in line for a while tho, they used to be a hidden gem but have grown so large and everyone is finding out about them , causing them to have large lines to talk to recruiters .
