Well guys, im not sure my question is connected in any manner to this forum but still im curious about the answers so i guess i'll have to figure this out.
In my country for some reason, being a pilot (especially in fighter jets) is considered as the highest dream of any guy/girl gets 18 and gets drafted to the army. There's a LOT of prestige and honor around this job.
Im curious if this fact stays when you grow up as a guy/girl living in the USA? if not- is there any job that considered more prestigious over another one?
sorry for my bad english.
thanks for the answer

Pilot in general is still somewhat prestigious here in the US, fighter pilot even more so. But here you must complete university and acquire a commission as a military officer before becoming a military pilot. You can't do it age 18, or as an enlisted person so the people choosing to be fighter pilots have other options in addition to military service (they can typically get a white-collar job based on their university degree).
We don't have conscription here in the US, but if we did and enlisted conscripts could be selected for pilot training I'm sure it would be a highly-desireable choice.

Choosing a career based on how others perceive that career is probably one of the worst choices you could make in your life. Being a brain surgeon is pretty prestigious as well. But slicing into gray matter every day just doesn't excite me. Do what you love and the money will follow.

In some countries, a pilot has a certain status; not so much in the United States. Pilots are common, and in my experience people aren't particularly impressed that one is a pilot.
In some countries such as India, even private pilots carry a great deal of prestige, though they seem more impressed with themselves than they're impressive to others. They tend to call themselves "commander" or "wing commander", a self-prescribed title that private pilots and higher use.
While I'm sure that some in the US pursue pilot qualifications for the prestige, most undertake flying because they like to fly, or feel drawn to flying.
Some of us make a career of flying because we don't know how to do anything else.

Reminds of something that one of my old crusty IPs at AF UPT told us one day when he heard one of my classmates bragging about how easy it was going to be to impress women after he graduated pilot training. We were told that the only people that would be impressed by us being pilots...were our parents and little kids. He could not be any more correct...
