UPS and DAL job offers

A friend has a tough decision to make - he has class dates at both UPS and DAL. He's up to speed about both of the companies and lifestyles and is having a hard time trying to pick one over the other for a 30+ year career. Any arguments you think he needs to add to the list?

Thanks
RCH

If he's up to speed, he shouldn't need help from anonymous internet posters.

That said I'd take UPS all day long. If for no other reason, the pay and retirement package.

The one where you don't have to commute.

The one where you wear a brown uniform.

30 years of nights or days. That is what they need to think about.

I know guys at UPS who wish they could go back to Delta. I know a couple were furloughed from DAL, went to UPS, furloughed from there, went back to Delta and are staying rather than go back for the A plan and money.

As far as money, currently it's a 7-8 year upgrade at Delta vs 18 at UPS, so the money is only better the first few years. Delta is hiring 100-150/month for the foreseeable future. UPS is hiring 100-150 for this year maybe.

It boils down to things a person wants.

Also, at UPS, he will be flying lithium-ion batteries which have the capability to self combust and cannot be extinguished on the airplane. They are prohibited on pax carriers.

Both are in contract talks so everything will probably change.

Delta seems like a much happier pilot group... At the moment.

Got kids? Day shift is better for the family (trust me). Also as mentioned I doubt we've seen the last Li-ion catastrophe in the cargo world...odds are extremely good that it won't happen to you but will that be something you'll lose sleep over?

I think your exactly right.

Plus (and this is a touchy topic I know) but I'm betting on that flying to start being 100% automated in 20+ years.

I don't mean to derail this thread, but...

Won't there always need to be someone there to program the machine?
