External letter of recommendation format
I've been asking former CO's to write me LOR's. One of them asked me specific format questions. Is the name of the recipient just the name of the airline? Dear Sir or Ma'am or To whom it concerns?
If anyone could PM me an example of an external LOR that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Generally however, a specific format is not required, it's just nice to know for the writer.
As a rule, To Whom it May Concern at XYZ Airlines is appropriate unless you know the name of the Director of Hiring etc.
As for rest, have them speak of what they know from their position. For example, if it's a CO, they may not be familiar with your flying in the cockpit, but they may know about your work ethic and character.
They can speak to your initiative or job enthusiasm; whatever you are looking for.
Good luck!
