Resignation?

Hello,

I was recently hired at a new airline, and I need to resign from my regional. For all of the former regional guys in this forum, how did you go about resigning? Did you write a letter and hand it to your chief pilot? Did you call him/her on the phone and tell them the news? Email? I've never had to resign before, so I want make sure I leave on professional terms, and don't burn any bridges.

Advice is appreciated.

Sent an email to the chief pilot that stated,
"Dear Chief Pilot,
Here is my two week notice of resignation.
Good day,
Captain Regular Pilot"

Doesn't have to be any more complicated than that. Your FOM may have guidelines of who to notify and what timeline is necessary. Congrats on getting out.

Exactly. If the CP wants any details, he'll call you. Keep it simple, keep it professional. Make sure you give them two weeks notice. Hit all those bases and you'll get a decent recommendation if the new employer decides to call your ex-employer for some reason.

Letter dropped to your chief pilot or an email. Id go email so you have an electronic copy of when you sent it and what it said. I'd give at least 2 weeks as most companies require that to pay you out unused vacation or sick time accrued if you have any and if they pay it. And some require you don't call in sick that last 2 weeks to get paid out as well.

Emergency slides.

Bid a trip that goes through your home town. Walk off and FedEx your badge back.... But make sure you use the discount before dropping it in the envelope and sealing it.

^this. Electronic proof is key.

Here's how you want to do it!

No, but seriously. Letter to the CP, hand delivered, left in inbox, or mailed. Give them at least the proper two weeks notice. Keep it simple, no rants, no tear-downs, etc. If they want to know why you are headed out, they will ask in the exit interview.

Smile, shake hands, and be on your way. That's how I did it.

I emailed multiple departments at my previous company before I left. CP finally got back to me a week after I emailed him. I was starting to wonder if anybody was ever going to know I was leaving....

Where does this 2 weeks nonsense come from? I know many who gave 2 weeks and were immediately shown the door. Take leave and get through class at your new job then resign.
