PRIA and regional hiring
Hey guys,
I'm a CFI at a major part 141 school. I had an incident with ATC one day (radio volume got turned down and got distracted in teaching, ended up doing a touch/go without a clearance) around a year ago. I didnt get a deviation filed with the FAA (so i know nothing on my FAA record), but a note about it was put in my employee file. The note just says something about deviating from company policies due to ATC clearances or something. I'm assuming this will show up on airline hiring PRIA, my question is how will this affect me getting hired? I really do not want to have to wait 5 years for this to drop off my record... I know that I can spin it into a learning experience on the interview, but my question is whether they will even consider me.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah you're fine man. Definitely have a positive spin (what you learned, admit your mistake and don't blame someone else) and you'll be absolutely good to go. Most regionals, as far as I'm aware, don't even look at your record until after they hire you. They ask you about criminal record and stuff like that, and if they find out you lied then they terminate you if it's bad enough.

Talk to your chief pilot at the 141... If it's been a year ask that the record be removed from your file. Also ask what will be reported in a pria check from the 141. I believe all they can legally report is training failures and dug alcohol failures.

That being said, you're PRIA request will ask 2 questions:
1. Was this person employed here? Yes or No check boxes and 3 blank lines follow
2. Is this person eligible for rehire? Yes or No check boxes and 3 blank lines follow
leave your current employer on good terms because i know 2 people who were later burned by a previous employer. If you really feel unsure if it might come up, disclose it on your own and explain it for the honest mistake that it was. Hell, if they ask "TMAAT you made a mistake or broke an FAR?" there's your answer.
You will have no problem getting hired at a regional. I, as well as many other pilots, have made the same mistake. Things happen, life goes on, don't stress it.
