Miami Dade aviation college??? Helpp
Hello my name is Ali, I'm in my last year of highschool and I have to make decisions ASAP, Ive dreamed of becoming an Airline pilot since Phhh a while back, I have 0 flight hours but I've flown in planes before and yes I love it and can't imagine myself doing nothing else, and I live in Florida and only looking for schools in fl. I'm currently looking at Miami Dade college since they have an aviation program partnered with Wayman and Dean flight school. Their tuition cost for the whole program is around 8k and of course the flight ratings are separate. Does anyone have some type input/ opinion toward this school? I'm in my last year of highschool and my mom wants be to attend Erau or Jacksonville Univ university but I honesty think that the price is too much even though I have a 3.8 and 4.4 gpa and a lot of community hours , and etc I don't think that any scholarship is gonna cover even half of the price. And btw any suggestions or tips would be great thanks.

Do many airlines require a 4 year degree? Yes
Do any require an aviation degree? NO
A degree in Aviation or from an aviation oriented school does not help at all. In fact, it may just hurt a little. Major airlines look for well rounded individuals.
Also, what happens if someday you can't pass a medical? Having a degree outside of aviation will probably save the day.
Find a second passion and get a degree in that from a good in state school, with reasonable tuition. Use the money left over from that to get your ratings from the best flight instructor you can find in the area.
Remember, find the best flight instructor. Not the best flight school. Even the best school can still have a few inadequate instructors.

Miami Dade is a good way to get your flight ratings and college education at a fair price compared to ERAU. I was considering going there a while back, but choose to go to a flight school and college later on. Having an Aviation degree will get you to ATP minimums at a reduced rate. It would be a good idea to first do the Associates Degree program, and then transfer to a State University to finish your BA in Business Management or Programming. Both could lead to Aviation related jobs should you couldn't fly anymore. I suggest getting more exposure, maybe hang out at the airport and talk to students and Instructors who are attending. Networking can accelerate your career more than you think in this industry. Try to get your ratings asap at a steady pace, while connecting with other professionals in the industry.
