Getting the most out of CTP

Hello, I've been VFR guy my whole career and well for most part steam gauges.

I know, I know they will teach me everything I need to know. At the same time I want to show up prepared.

I've scheduled an IPC a couple days before I leave for CTP. I've read the Turbine Pilots Flight Manual.

Any other tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

they won't teach you "everything" you need to know about the atp written. It's a course to bridge your past training to start training as a crewmember in 121 operations, turbine engines, high altitude ops, CRM & things like that. It has very little to do with the actual written but it does give you an idea of 121 jet operations.

ah yes, i should have said over the course of CTP and ground school they will teach me everything i need to know

sounds like the CTP course is exactly what i need to bridge myself over

guess ill just download shepard air and get ready for the written then.

thank you

you got it. the CTP course just gets you ready for an airline's new hire class and is a requirement to take the written. Just make sure you keep the original cert. and written test results with you. you'll need them when you go for your oral.

The CTP did absolutely nothing for me. It was a bunch of time spent in a classroom, our instructor had some interesting stories which was about the coolest part of the classroom instruction. We watched some videos on CRM and human factors, pretty much that Air Disasters show.

The fun part was the sim. It was definitely cool to hang out in an A320 sim and do stupid things.

I would recommend you spend your evenings studying the Sheppard Air ATP written, since in reality the CTP does zero to prepare you for it.
Good luck!

Some of the CTPs include Sheppard air in their fee so check before you spend anything extra. You can see exactly what's covered in the CTP in AC 61-138. Nothing related to the ATM written.

That's the first thing CAE mentioned when we sat down on day 1. "This course WILL NOT prepare you for the ATP written."

concur with all previous posts. CTP is a check in the box. classroom training is focused on passing the CTP test at the end of the course (you literally can not fail this -- every question comes from 'end of module' quizzes that you will have seen prior to the "final"). the only thing you get out of the CTP course that prepares you for the ATP written is the certificate of completion that you have to bring to the test center. Sheppard is a must for the written.

WRT sims, it is exposure and exposure only. my sim partner was a 1500.1 hour wonder (MEI...all Seminole/Cherokee), and had never been at the controls of a turbine of any kind. he crushed it.

A320 sim makes it easy.
