Moving back to the USA, starting from scratch
Hi,
I've been reading through a lot of the previous "any advice"-threads on APC and JC - lots of good information and insights on this topic. However, I feel being in a slightly different situation..
I'm a US/Finnish dual-citizen, currently living in Finland, just turned 25, no degree(had the chance) and starting my flight career from scratch.
I've been saving up for a couple of years now and I expect to have enough saved up so that I won't have to get myself in a ton of debt to start with, but some will be required.
As I earlier mentioned, no college degree. I had the chance to do it here in Finland, but story short - I didn't and now I sure have regrets about that decision. The "no degree" aspect is actually what's mostly on my mind right now concerning my training and how I should go forward from here.
Currently my plan is to start my training at the end of the year in FL, get my licenses and start instructing to get those hours in. As to the degree, I feel that I don't have the time(nor the financing) to go through a traditional college and after that start flight training(as I am 25 already..) so I am really looking at online degrees. Currently I am thinking of possibly putting the degree on hold for a few years until I've been instructing for some time, getting closer to the regionals and then start building a online degree while on the job.
How does that sound, any advice?
I've visited a few schools in Florida, bigger and smaller and I have set my eyes on a small school out of LNA.
As an addition to that, do you know anyone advancing from the regionals to a non-US carrier in the ME or Asia? I see that as a fine option for me also.
Thanks for your time!

Hey there.
I went to an online school to complete my 4 year degree. I was studying at Thomas edison state college while holding a full time flying job.
tesc.edu
they will give credit for all your flight ratings. Also you can "test" out of most of the basic credits. Google CLEP and Dantes tests.
good luck

Thank you, I'll look into those!
Getting credit for your flight training sounds like a good deal and a money saver - how many credits are we talking about here? Doing some research about costs per credit (300-400usd), is there a catch to it or why isn't every young aspiring pilot choosing these schools offering credit for flight training? That's a lot of money we're talking about.
Any experiences of low hour/regional pilots going to Asia or ME?
