Default AirlineApps - what's considered a conviction?

Under the driving history section, applicants are asked to fill out details of violations, including a (yes/no) conviction question.

2 similar questions:
1a: If cited for speeding, but pay a fine/complete drivers ed school, does that count as a conviction?
1b: If cited for an accident (at fault or not), is that a conviction?

Consulting the google machine, my consensus is that only criminal offenses result in convictions, i.e. Hit and Run, Reckless driving (over 20MPH posted speed limit / > 80MPH) or Drunk Driving.

Anyone interpret the "conviction" question differently?

Also, in the addendum section for Delta and United, sort of a tricky question - "Have you ever been convicted of any felony, misdemeanor, infraction, offense of other violation on any law?"

2. Are pilots listing the same driving infractions they previously listed under the "driving history" section here again? Seems redundant but not sure if that's by design?

Thanks.

Safe answer would be yes to any diving violation which was not dismissed in court.

Moving violations are misdemeanors, which is criminal.

Parking tickets are normally infractions, which are not criminal. This is so they can fine you and refer you for collections without due process like a jury trial. Jury trials would cost the government way more than they would ever collect in parking tickets.

Paid a fine is a no contest plea, which is a conviction. traffic court, lesser offense are still probably convictions for this purpose.

If you were cited for an accident, the cop thought you were at fault. How you report that depends on the ultimate disposition of the case.

For the DL addendum, I just referenced the other part of the app for traffic tickets. But they haven't called me yet either.

Hint: They don't really care about the tickets. It is more about the honesty than it is the citations/convictions.

One of my clients had 13 speeding tickets and still got hired at a major airline. Be honest and list all violations on your application. Google doesn't always have the correct answer.

To answer your questions:
1A - Yes
1B - Yes
2 - For Delta, yes. For United, no.

Good luck.

Along the same lines of the original question....I recently got pulled over and given a warning that is on record with the county that I was driving in for my car windows being too dark. Bought it in the south and moved back north so they are very dark. If I were to get pulled over again the officer said that it would then be a citation. Is this something that needs to be included anywhere on Airline Apps or any other major carriers application regarding driving records if I were to actually get cited in the future?

Yes, if you pay the fine it then becomes a conviction. I doubt the airlines would care at all about a fix-it ticket, assuming they have no way of knowing you were warned in advance. I wouldn't tell them you warned but blew it off.

But if that would be the only thing which would cause you to check yes to the conviction box, I'd get the tint removed asap. The computer might move you down in the stack without any human oversight, delaying your interview for a few years.

Can you expand upon this? Are you suggesting United applicants need not list traffic offenses, just more serious convictions on the addendum?

You are correct. United does not care about traffic offenses. Delta would like for you to state them on your app on the addendum section.
