Default FedEx and UPS jobs.

Is there a major difference in time when it comes to trying to get a job with FedEx or UPS? I recently was downsized as a Part 135 Captain (King Air's), and am interviewing for another 135 job (King Air's, Commanders, and Citations) and want to know if it's better to take a PIC job part 135 or take the pay cut and do regional FO part 121 stuff for a few years? I haven't got enough time (1900TT, 900 ME, 600 Turb PIC) to get on with a national, so what I am really wanting to know is more turbine PIC time worth not having the part 121 experience?

For FX, the more turbine PIC the better. Right seat 121 RJ time is good for one thing: getting to the left seat and getting turbine PIC.

I am a former regional guy at FX and got hired with zero jet, but a lot of 'Extended Cab King Air' (B1900) time.

Well, my take on it is that 121 PIC turbine, >20,000 multi-crew certified airplanes are the best time to try and get hired with a major. However, I know several people that have only had 135 PIC turbine time and gotten on at FedEx, Southwest, and UPS. If going 121 will take a long time to upgrade again, you're probably better off getting at least 1500 to 3000 hours of PIC turbine time.

However, if you have an opportunity to get widebody international 121 time and already have >1500 PIC turbine time, then that's probably better for FedEx and UPS.

Remeber to also think about what works best for you. If your hating the job or type of work, that's not good for anyone.

Best of luck!

I'd jump ship to get on with a regional/national as soon as possible. My class was made up of 1/2 civilian. Two of the civies had G-IV international experience with large fortune 500 companies. The other civies were all regional jet guys from Mesa, Pinnacle, ExpressJet, COMAIR, Eagle and Mesaba. There was one guy who didn't have any jet time at all. He was a Dash 8 Captain, PC Check Airman, Simulator Instructor and had been an intern at FedEx during college. If my class is the norm - the norm says go get your jet pic in 121 for a higher percentage chance at FedEx. Of course, if you have flight time in aircraft over 150K/lbs, glass and FMS time you'll be quickly picked up for the MD-11 ANC if they do what they did last time. The majority of the civies in my class had 4500-6500 TT, former Line Check Airman, Simulator Instructors, Chief Pilots etc. Two of the civies had 9000+TT with over 4000 JET PIC in a 121 environment.

Maybe that intel will help you make the choice you need to make.

Best of luck!
