Default UPS Vacancy Bid

No net additional captain slots with the 727 going bye-bye. But lots of F/O's needed up in beautiful Alaska

None of the displacements will be forced to ANC. Just heard from a very nervous FE.

Why wouldn't they be? Is there some exemption clause for ANC?

I have read a response email, which I will not post, that merely stated that there were over 200 FO vacancies from the last bid (DEC06) that were not filled. Thus, no one will be forced to ANC since we are short everywhere.

I think there will be a lot of FOs going to ANC that don't really want to go there. They signed up for that possibility, so in a sense nobody is forcing anyone to go anywhere.

I guess that the 747Y is the -400, but does anyone know how they got that designation?

My guess is that they used Z in SDF, so they're counting down the alphabet backwards. Kinda like the new ILS approach designations, ILS Z, ILS Y, etc...

you think we wouldn't have figured it out if they called it the 400a (for anchorage) or the 7474? Oh well..... Come to think of it, why "Z"?

Could it relate to that infamous question: "What Zulu time is it where you are?"

Default Alaska

I gotta question about the $1500/mth bonus if you get based in Alaska. To get it do you sign something like a 3 year lock that keeps you there? Is the reserve usually 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off? That 1,500 would make a nice mortgage payment on a condo up there.
