Default Ques About Atlas 17 day straight schedules

Doesn't working on 17 days straight violate the 30 hours in 7 days rule?

Also, isn't your body clock really messed up? Is it difficult to sleep?

Thanks.

Cargo doesn't have a 30 hour rule, because cargo isn't under part 117. Also, the 24 hours off (or 30 for that matter at a pax carrier) can occur in a hotel on a layover.

It depends on how you manage it. I have worked on an odd schedule for most of my career. It doesn't bother me.

Yes the 17 day schedule is hard on the body. At times you will have trouble sleeping, especially when you finally get home. Just about the time you get back on a regular sleep schedule it will be time to go back out for another 17 days!

You will get 1/7's and yes, 30 hr breaks (we do pax) on the road. Sometimes in fun places, other times in ****ty hostile areas. But you will get them.

That being said.....at Atlas you can bid the split schedules and be gone for less than 17 days. The company breaks up the 17 days in any way THEY WANT. Then you bid for the schedule. Believe me it is easier to get a split schedule than it is to get a straight 17 day schedule. The 17 day and done schedule is popular!

However, it is hard on your personal relationships! If you have a wife/girlfriend or both......plan on them leaving you. If you have kids, plan on raising them by telephone. When there is a family emergency you will be on the road and unreachable.

Atlas......its not just a job, its a ****ed up way of life!

I find that I am better rested when I return home than when I was flying international Pax. With constant commutes back and forth from work I was always tired. With 16 days out I go to work and find that I can usually get sleep when I need. I usually go home beat tired because I take the first flight I can. Recovery for me happens in about a day leaving me 13 where I can enjoy life.

Brother I hear you , we used to pull into CVG near midnight on my last day some tours and I would have them set up a rental car for me, home before sunrise, in my own bed, I agree with you about recovery times. Cheers out.

It's not quite as bad as Screwed says. You don't have to raise your children by telephone, you do it with FaceTime. It's now the preferred, good parenting approved method. Haha.

Or texting. The kids are now too cool to FaceTime dad when he's on the road. According to them, FaceTime is practically last century.

You'd think I was sending them hand written, paper letters in the mail or something ...
