Default latest UPS hiring info for CY 2007

Based on the impending retirement of the entire 727 fleet, the company is looking to hire 216 F/Os this year (was previously to be 340 before 727 announcement). They are also possibly deferring the bulk of this hiring until later in the year, since they will utilize earlier training slots which were to be assigned to newhires for transitioning 727 crewmembers instead. They're looking at a 3000 crewmember staffing model after the current realignment/displacement bids close (late March).

I took a look at the debrief link on AirUpsers (no I didn't attend in person!) There were 2 files at the end of the article, a powerpoint file and the audio file. Take it for what it's worth but it was directly from the manpower plannning supervisor who has been accurate in the past with bids, etc. Check out pg. 16-26 for the lowdown. P.22 has the before and after realignment bid staffing numbers (including the -4 SDF MD-11 CAPTs). They also mentioned no F/E furloughs, they're going to wait and see with the age 65 rule change, etc.

Assuming these numbers are right, why is the staffing so much higher for the FE seat than other seats on the same a/c?

So they do not have to furlough! That's a can of worms they do not want to deal with, IMHO.

Does anyone know what the current numbers are? That way we could determine where the growth will be. Or, is that information available elsewhere?

The sun is out and it's going to be above freezing today. Things could be worse.

Remember,

The over 60 guys have way more vacation, call in sick way more and have to be at Denny's by 430 PM to get that all important Senior discount...
