Kalitta vs Atlas
I have been giving the K4 pilots a very hard time with regards to their contract. I was WRONG.
Kalitta is the better choice for a career in ACMI right now and for the foreseeable future.
They have a newer contract, and are making more money with less stress. While at Atlas, not only do we work harder to make less....WHEN IS THE LAST TIME CONNIE HAS SUED HIS PILOTS?
Now don't get me wrong, I still think the K4 contract could have been better; but at least they can go to work and not have management trying to abuse them on a daily basis. I have yet to hear a K4 pilot complain about Scheduling lying to them or trying to get them to make illegal flights OR Travel trying to screw them with substandard hotels or even failing to just book any travel at all. Also, at Atlas we have to double check pay stubs just to make sure we were not cheated by the company, and its curious how the pay mistakes are never in the pilot's favor.
I bet its nice not having to psyche yourself just to go to work Or having to discuss the latest negotiation rumors every time you fly Or fight with Scheduling and Travel every damn day. I bet its really nice!
And the quicker upgrades at K4 are just icing on the cake.

In the interest of openness.... while the scheduling / travel department still have issue... it is getting better. With the recent promotion of the old Asst manager of Scheduling to the top position things ARE better and will continue to get that way. Doesn't mean they dont push the edges of the contract because they do, just dont step over the line.

Screwed and the rest of my Atlas brothers.
I feel your pain. The 6 years it took Kalitta to wake up and realize that the only way they were going to survive was to give significant gains to their pilots were miserable. Every time you came to work the only conversations were about the contract and every breakfast was a biotch fest. I hope your company wakes up soon. Their only way to survive is to offer your pilot group a contract that is better than ours and as soon as possible. I hope and pray you get everything you deserve. I wish the same for Omni and all of the other non-scheduled carriers. Hopefully in a few years we will be building on your contract. Fight the good fight. I know it's grinding on the psyche and the family at home but sadly only through the byzantine pathways of the Railway Labor Act can we prevail. Good Luck.

Having been through the turmoil of a contract, I can tell you that it was probably worth the effort. I think that our pilot group is much closer as a result of it, compared to say Delta or United. Now that we are making more it seems to be a nice environment to work in. If I were at Atlas, knowing what I know, I would stay. It is only a matter to time until contract completion and frankly the money is not that bad.
I know how tough it can be to work in a toxic environment. I made the request more than once, "Please stop complaining while we are flying, this is the only part I really get to enjoy about this job". I actually always enjoyed the breakfast ***** sessions.
Good luck on your career decision. Try not to cut your nose off to spite your face.
