Default part 135 -> UPS/FedEx

Current regional 121 FO.
Current plan is to upgrade and apply to majors including UPS and FedEx.
However, just curious as to if they hire guys from the 135 world- due to commuting difficulties and stress, I’ve considered a 135 that flies you to work. However I don’t want to screw myself by not having 121 TPIC. I know at least fedex is picky enough to have turned down a shuttle pilot :/

UPS has hired a number of Part 91/135 pilots since 2014.

I know a few guys who were hired in the last year or so with just 135 time. They all had CP or Asst. CP on the resume, with more than 1000TPIC...I still keep hearing the TPIC is the key, no matter what segment you are coming from, but who knows.

Hey man, I'd say you're on the right track. Don't leave 121 for 135 if FDX or UPS is your endgame. Many a freightdog has fooled themselves into thinking that all that Beech 99 time will eventually land them a job with Brown or Purple. It doesn't. Their websites say 1000 TPIC what they really mean is 1000 Jet PIC. Yes, I know there are exceptions. But those numbers are so few that you can almost disregard them completely. Maybe if you were on a jet under part 135 or something it'd be a little different conversation.

Now onto Fed Ex. You're absolutely right. They're picky, in fact they sound more picky than everybody else. They have a points system or something along those lines that grants you an interview. Those points include internal references (which are limited per employee e.i. a FDX employee can't reference more than X amount of folks per Y time period. Dear Purple correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just going off what I've heard). They also include stuff on your resume. Military flying/service adds points, training department are major boosts too. I know some guys that have made it in with just Turboprop 135 time. It was a transport category turboprop, multi-crew and they had either training department or check airman on their record as well.

Now I know somebody who's currently trying to make the jump to widebody cargo from 135 cargo. The serious drawback is that in that particular op there's no FMS/automation time. That person hasn't caught any luck yet in that department. So you're in a good spot. Where ever you are, suck it up for a bit, upgrade and you'll come out ahead. I'm looking forward to the day I can leave 135 for 121. Who knows though, the grass after all is always greener.

I'm sorry but being a Chief pilot don't mean squat. They just fired one for failing new-hire training on the 747.

I think they meant having chief pilot in your background helps get you chosen for an interview. Once you’re here, if you can’t pass training then it doesn’t matter what you have for past experience.
