Suggestion - Forum Split

Since there is such a preponderance of posts by Fedex & UPS types about their specific company related issues here wouldn't it be advantageous to have sub-groups for these two entities? Seems that there is a lot of intra-company banter here that is not relevant to "Cargo" operations most of the other operators.

I mean after all what does the bidding/basing/vacation issues and the deification of some of their crewmembers have to do with "Cargo"? The UPS/Fedex groups have an entirely different set of issues to deal with than all the other "lower tiered" (read - bottom feeders) cargo operators.

I don't know if there is any specific company related sites that these two groups could use. From the tenor of their conversations I take that they see this as an "open" forum without having to suffer the onus of reprisals that they might face on their respective company sites.

I have no interest in the inner workings & machinations or politics of either UPS or Fedex. I do not find the bulk of these posts as having any relevance to the rest of the freight/cargo world.

It would be my hope that the UPS/Fedex types here would welcome their own arena where they would not have to be bothered with what they might construe as the irrelevant rhetoric of the other "bottom feeders"

Having separate forums for these two would also avoid the whole "Major/Cargo" dispute.

This suggestion is forwarded with no intent to inflame the delicate sensibilities of any one group or individual. It was not made with any intent to invoke a flame war. I just think this forum should adhere more to the applicability of "Cargo" issues.

Perhaps not a bad idea. I think this came up at least once before on this forum but obviously nothing came of it. I see JetBlue has their own section so I would certainly think FDX/UPS would be able worthy of their own section. I am actually usually pretty interested to read about the inner workings of the two companies but thats just me. However, there is nothing that prevents all the other companies from writing in too and if you see a thread titled "FedEx May bid and vacation" you can just skip it....

We could title it

"FedEx, sponsored by Ask Tony"

A long time ago we opened a JetBlue forum because their group came to us asking for this help. These forums had about 200 registered members when that happened; a blip compared to every other pilot forums' traffic.

Today is a bit different. If we opened up a separate forum for FedEx and UPS, then we'd also be obligated to open one for Continental, Southwest, ExpressJet, and others that have lots of pilot posts pertaining to that carrier.

I believe that having a lot of FedEx and UPS posts in the cargo forum isn't a problem. There are almost 7,500 pilots between them, so their posts will of course outnumber those coming from airlines like Gemini and World.

We're always looking for ways to tweak the forums to make a better user experience, so --as always-- thanks for the feedback.

How about a layover sub-forum...perhaps separated into Domestic and International? Or even city-by-city?

Good way to get recommendations on restaurants, shopping, sightseeing, activities, etc.

I find the layover database in the "tools" section of the IPA page useful but outdated and underutilized. Also, the posts have no date stamps, so you don't know how old the information is. And since hotels frequently change, recommendations that say "walk out of the hotel and make a left turn..." can be inaccurate and misleading.

I'd like to be able to benefit from a pool of knowledge combining all airline travelers...not just guys from my company.

Tipsy,

I opened up a Layover Gouge forum last year, but nobody posted in it. So I closed it down...

I don't think they should be split.. There are allot of other cargo companies out there other than purple and brown. You guys have the most posts, but keeping it on one board lets people in other sectors get a feel for what's going with cargo as a whole. On Pprune.org many of the companies have their own forums that lock others out.
