All they need to do is slow hiring... say by increasing failures to 60%... or just reducing hiring....
they can claim they’re trying to hire while staffing drops. When it gets low enough from normal attrition, doors close.
817 Comair pilots on property when they were told don’t come in anymore, company closed. That’s not a furlough.

Agreed. ATSG is just beginning to - or soon will be - realizing the pilot shortage is real. The places paying decent wages with decent work rules get the pilots. The places with the pilots get the contracts. Pilots are the new currency, and they hate it.

Management doesnt like abx pilots because of personal events that have happened in the past. It doesnt matter if there were thousands of applicants, management is slowly closing that place down. May take a few years in an effort to die slowly/cheaply. Those are the facts

Or you just hire like crazy. Atlas grew by 150 pilots last year, and they don't have decent wages or decent work rules. But they have pilots, so they can get the contracts.

Not really sure why you are so excited to see other pilots put out of work and then onto the street. Especially when it has no effect on you. Maybe if people looked out for one another instead of trying to make themselves feel better through someone else’s misery the world might be a better place. Things might go horribly bad for the ABX pilots but there is no reason to shove their nose in it.
When he was at Legacy Eagle out of NYC his opinions and voice got him in trouble not only with the union but management. It was an every time we had a conference call and he got on.
You’d think he’d humble himself by now especially being a NEW HIRE with Omni but... somethings never change.

If this were not the case, companies could rid themselves of unionized labor groups, union contracts, and employee longevity by temporarily shutting down and restarting. There never would be a furlough, only shutdowns/restarts.
In some shutdowns, there is no viable business remaining to follow through on the requirements of the CBA. In those cases, the pilots, while still furloughed and on the seniority list, become creditors in the bankruptcy and may, or may not, see any or all of what is due to them. When a parent company remains, such as ATSG, the parent company has the resources to, and must, satisfy the debts and obligations of the subsidiary that they are shutting down including fulfilling its obligations under the CBA.

Under the RLA, and their CBA, they were furloughed. Their position on the Comair seniority list was retained. The provisions of their CBA still had to be followed. If Comair had been resurrected, they would have had to follow the applicable recall procedures in the CBA.
