Just take the written....got the book, studied it for 3 days, took the written. Done. That was 30 yrs ago so I could sneak into a last minute upgrade class but last time I flew...the houses get smaller when you pull back on the yoke and bigger when you push forward so I would be surprised if a lot has changed.

Wow.. just saw the bid packages for the 767. 5 capatain on Captain lines and they’re still making more Captains. It’s going to get interesting for some of these junior captains after they consolidate. Unless there’s 20 new FOs hiding somewhere, if you’re junior, you could end up sitting right seat a lot.

I will preface with, go do the ATP/CTP course and take the ride. It’s a small investment in your overall all future career and like Max said, no one here getting hired without it.
Now I will say that there a lots of highly experienced pilots, even some (military) who have heavy international time to boot, out there without their ATP so, to correlate having a piece of plastic with ATP on it to experience level is false equivalency. Yes it’s a hoop to jump through, but in all honesty how much did most people learn getting their ATP? It was cram and dump written for most and ride was even less of an event.
My experience level when I got hired and the airplanes I flew would have been no different if I didn’t hold an ATP, (hell the heaviest aircraft I flew up to this point was an helo and the biggest was a metro liner) but I would not have been hired without those three words on my piece of plastic.

Unfortunately not that easy today. The required CTP sim course to take the written is a week long. Either have to have my boss pay or take a week off and do it myself (not opposed). Problem is I don’t want my boss to pay and then immediately leave elsewhere. just not fair to them

I applied and was curious how they view people with no heavy jet time. I do have 1900 TPIC across several business jets. Have over 8000 TT and have been a 135 CP and DO. 5 type ratings but nothing larger than a Challenger 604. Is this at all competitive for at least getting an interview ?
