Update from today. They are calling people for class May 11th and on for the 767 only and they will resume calling for 747 classes in May probably.

There are classes scheduled every 3 weeks. Feb 18th through May 11th now. I did not ask what fleet all these classes were assigned, but I assume the majority are 747.

Any reasoning behind that? Growing the 76? Shrinking the 74?

What's going on with the B777 at Kalitta? I'm going for a B777 job in Asia and wondering if a B777 type rating and flight time will be enough to get that ever elusive interview call.

A lot of foreign carriers will require a minimum of 500 hours on type. To be competitive, probably more. There are also non type rated assessments with different minimum qualifications.

According to the Chief Pilots webinar last week three 747 aircraft expected soon are not coming because someone else out bid the company. They are actively looking for more 747 aircraft. There are a few 767 aircraft coming on line soon and I would suspect that is why classes on that airframe are being held now. The company is actively pursuing ETOPS on the 767 so it's flying and route structure may change in the future. The 777 program is reported to be on track but as of now is still only one confirmed aircraft. Those are the facts as of last Tuesday. They could have been out of date by Wednesday morning. We find out when aircraft arrive on the ramp that we have them for sure.

Kalitta is always happy to get guys with heavy international experience. It doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily be hired into the 777 here though. There just aren’t many spots right now

As mentioned, the 747-400 fleet will be three planes shorter than planned in the short term. While it sucks that we won't see those three NCA planes, Connie has a long history of shaking every tree in the forest and only picking up what he likes. For now, there is a backlog on the fleet of awarded upgrades along with almost 70 new hires, so it's no surprise to anyone here that they're pumping the brakes on -400 hiring for the season. The long term plan for the fleet is still growth.

To answer the 777 question, the company seems to put a lot of value on international and heavy time, even if time on type doesn't make it a sure thing. They have picked up quite a few people with experience on that aircraft lately and put them through training on something else, so it wouldn't pidgeon-hole you into one fleet either.
