My friend is feeling defeated about it as well. Strong emphasis for applicants already typed so they can do a short course. Ultimately I think we need to get our own 777 simulator.

Don't worry! Atlas/Southern will keep pumping out the 777 type ratings to get sucked up by Kalitta.

Just like Atlas did with 767 types for UPS.

Great business model we have here! Check the box and go.

I imagine they’re still going to need Whale and light twin drivers.

Highly doubt it.

I’m with Riverside on that one. We are grossly over staffed on the whale at the moment, and don’t know about the light twin. The emphasis is on the triple, and it’s easy to take whale drivers and throw them in the short course to move over.

We need some new airframes to handle the overhiring since attrition isn’t very fast, but there’s plans of retiring some of the BCFs so it may turn into a zero gain.

If it is true that we just hired 13 Southern 777 FO's, and there are plenty more that want to make the switch, those 60 empty FO slots will get filled quickly. (Available sim time?)
We are losing people to the usual places, and retirements... They certainly aren't slowing down the hiring of mechanics!
I am not as pessimistic about the 74/76 fleets.

They are running a 747 class in October. Hopefully they keep trickling in in the 747 at a minimum.

Hiring short-course 777 guys is smart. As much as it sucks it certainly get people on the line quicker!

They are having trouble finding SIM time. The last 777 awarded pilots don't yet know where or when they will train. We got an email today that they are still awaiting SIM availability.

No sim time availability. Let me put on my shock face. Going to need to pony up and buy 2 sim bays.
