Hello Again, just wanted to clarify that my intention here is to bring clarity for those that are interested, I don't mean to start an empty argument but I also don't want people to get discouraged because they read that you won't qualify for an F/O position if you are a 777 and instructor captain for one of the top airlines in the world

Ok, lets talk about the expat market, first of all you need extensive experience as an airline pilot to be hired in the likes of Emirates, Qatar, ANA, China Southern, they are simply not interested in you if you don't, so yes! The vast majority of Americans working abroad have previous 121 time, unless it is a case (and there are a few) with dual citizenship and their previous airline experience has also been abroad, some of the Latinamerican carriers for example Latam, GOL.
As a matter of fact, I know a Brazilian/American that was working In China (Instructor captain on the A320) and had to take a job as an F/O at a regional to meet 121.436 that requires 1,000 121 SIC to act as PIC part 121 (or a combination of part 135PIC and 91.1053) but that only applies to be able to act as PIC under part 121, there are no limits to be hired as an F/O, in his particular case, he wanted to target a A320 operator and be based in Florida, and he is there now after he flew the required SIC time under 121.436.

People get hired all the time guys, from the ME, from China..., these boards are very limited in terms of experiences because it is a very small group of people that participates, the biggest problem for Americans working abroad is believe it or not, maintaining a US drivers license for the background check, and in the case of Fedex, they need to live 5 years in the US prior to applying because of the restrictions of the backgfround check and the USPS contract but that is it.

The entire point of my post is that there is no inherent disadvantage to having expat experience. The issues that must be overcome are related to networking and face time, and they can be harder to address when working on the opposite side of the planet from the desired job.

I flew as an expat for eight years based on three different continents before coming to work at Kalitta, and my experience is not at all unusual for this company. I have felt welcome and happy since my first day flying the line. No one here is looking down on expats like us, but some of them are unclear on some of the obstacles we might face in coming home. There are more expatriates here on this board than you might think; particularly in discussions of ACMI. And for my part, I have yet to hear talk of FAR 129 outside of internet message boards.

I guess Part 129 doesn't limit you as might as I thought. I saw a lot of guys coming back at the regionals straight from Emirates and thought the major's wants some current Part 121 time prior to applying. I know Kalitta doesn't seem to care one way or another for hiring so apply to your heart's content! Looking at other airline requirements I see I was mistaken about Part 129 affecting your chances at many airlines in the US. Fedex requires some time in the US before being considered, but this being a K4 thread that doesn't matter.
I know of an F/A 18 pilot that was told to get 500 hours at a regional and he would have a job at Delta. That was Delta however...
